The driver of the car ( Ford Mondeo ) was Malcolm Vollands who was the sales manager at Cowies of Blackburn on Montague street. The Mondeo had just been launched the year before and its new airbag system ( revolutionary at the time ) saved his life although he was off work for quite some time.

My dad said : Eric trotter
it’s me to the left of Vosey.The driver was leaving Blackburn towards the Moat House on the long bend when he had heart attack, his lorry pushed a car against the wall, driver was a sales rep from Cowies, saved by air bags.
No change in what my dads doing nothing !

I remember it well it was my first RTC death. John Riley was first on scene when on way home from nights at Preston
