  • Hi,
Fantastic photo, never seen this one before, the lady 4th from right back row is my mother Emily Stirzaker (nee Salisbury) she was Firewoman no. 875121 E. Salisbury, from 12th March 1943 until 15th December 1945. She is also on the Dinner Dance photo, again back row 5th from the right. (I have this photo but without the names on it).
Thanks for sharing these photos, much appreciated.

  • The lady in the back row, third from the right is my mother, Betty or Betsy Rubins. She was later transferred to London ( I think ) and the South Coast at Portsmouth. I know that she was in Portsmouth during the D Day landings. She married Solly Fine who also served in the AFS, initially at Blackburn, but later in Sheffield and Liverpool for certain.

  • I think the lady second from the left front row is, or was, Joan Stubbs. I worked for Stubbs Removals of Blackburn for many years and I know that Joan was on the wartime watchroom staff .When I knew her she was in her late 40’s but I’m pretty sure that it is her. Her married name was Bottomley.
