I was on that train in fact i was sat over where the actual fire started, i was on my way to colledge in manchester i recall jumpping out of the carriage. I remember stumbling over somthing in the tunnel i bent down to feel what it was and it was a person i picked up the person and carried the person out when we got out i saw it was a female she was alright i just left her she was standing. I went to someones house , then i was bused back to blackburn.
I remember this fire well. I ran along the track for about 1/4 of a mile carrying two lengths of hose, i passed them to a Darwen retained fireman and ran back for two more, when I got back to the tunnel mouth the same fireman went to take them from me I said \’bugger off, go and get your own\’. We had another fire in Oswaldtwistle the same day.
