  • We owned the shop next door no.51, we were all stood outside watching the drama unfold…I was 11years old at the time, I vividly remember the fireman falling in as the building collapsed…we had to vacate the shop as it was too dangerous I remember staying at my aunties house till we got another house…

  • Alan was at the head of the ladder at the gutter. I was on the roof talking to Alan, a council worker pushed some of the collapsed bricks into the hole where the chimney had been. As the bricks fell into the hole a loud rumbling noise told me to run. I ran across the roof as it pitched and tossed, I grabbed hold of the chimney in the picture as the roof fell away. I turned to see Alan the ladder and front walls collapsing inwards and disappeared in a cloud of dust. Chris Norse dragged Alan into the middle of the road to wait for an ambulance. I had to await rescue from another pump.
