Visit By Jack Straw
From: ArticlesMust apologise for not knowing much about this moment in time , I know its Blue watch plus one junior fireman welcoming Jack Straw to Blackburn Fire Station and that the young recruit was his 9 year old son William . Along with Mr Straw are Chief Fire Officer Roy Watson with councillor Eric Smith and the rest of the watch of which some I am afraid I do not know

hi all i remember it well.we were told not to ask any awkward political questions of Mr Straw As the gulf war was on the brink as i remember. We all sat upstairs in the concert room sitting on our hands quietly then had to perform for Mr Straw and his secretary<a young fella,on the drillground.I remember Condaleeza Rice arriving around this time to drum up Labour support from Mr Straw. Not a happy watch that day as we were warned away from our political views as to what has now proved to be a pointless war that in turn provoked isis and glorified Tony Blair and George Bush.History now shows the truth.Love how Andy Hulls is shown,so typical of you Andy, top man.Great days and memories, have always said the highlight of my service was at Blackburn.Regards to all Pete Byron,ex Blue watch 80,s
The line up is Andy hulls, mark southworth, Brian Jowett, Pete Byrom, John Davies and Ian Richards left to right. This brings back great memories. I served there on blue watch from Oct 1989 to May 1991 then transferred to Blackpool. I left LFRS in June 2013 and am now a Deputy Fire Chief in Saudi.
