Blackburn's number 3 on station yard 1950's

This picture shows the number 3 outside the workshops at the old Byrom street station, looks like sergeant Head was officer in charge. This picture may well have been taken at the same time as another in the same place but with local dignitaries.

No 3 Fire appliance was the last open type crew cab to be on the run, I recall when I joined in 1964 their were many tales about firefighters falling off when the vehicle cornered one way the crew went in the opposite direction, and tales about threading their belts through the hand rails to give them some security.
