That’s what I remember in 1979 playing on Byron st and going at the back trying to get in the red engine lol??
very very familiar for me Fern. my Hubby served here and so did my Son. What wonderful socials we had there.
I worked at Deans bakery Canterbury St in my schooldays in the ’50s. The area on which the firestation was built used to be called The Wrangling. Most towns had one it was where the livestock was brought for slaughter before the days of refridgeration.
We lived at 44 Sumner St
Jim lived 36 Sumner St and 93 canterberry
I lived on Sumner St, part of the fire station until 1983. My dad was a fireman there for 30 years
I used to live on Clifton street in 1970 when I got married
My hubby Jim bradley lived Canterbury St dad harry bradley a officer in brigade. also lived across from abbatoir

me and my brothers used to play in the firemans yard too..we used to help clean the fire engines and sit in them
i had realtions who lived and worked there, used to love playing in the yard to the side of it, got to see all the fire men training and fire engines
Blackburn Fire Engines 1972 – I lived in Byrom street – right across the street from the fire chiefs house
I have been able to find a few photos in my father’s papers which might be of interest to you. Many of his photos are already on the site, but these are some different ones.
