My Weekly magazine sent a reporter into Blackburn fire station to spend the day with red watch , read the story and check out the photos from that time . Many thanks for the photos given to us by Dave Bowers the station officer at the time and some provided by Bob France one of the firemen from the time . As every shift begins to attention for roll call
the day begins with the checking of breathing apparatus sets
the concert room laid out for gym
A young fireman yates giving a demonstration of what happens in the gym session
after all that effort everyone deserves a brew , no one refuses a brew you never knew when your next one would come
practising rolling hose up
a bit of ladder drill ,putting it up going up it then taking it down in any career done thousands of times
hydrant inspection an annual event of at one time thousands of them
at the start of a fire prevention visit to a local industrial or commercial premise again an annual event at this time carried out by the firemen and supervised by officers
the first incident of the day a car fire
our intrepid reporter gets stuck in damping down the car
this the first fire of the day
looks like we need a ladder
one for the scrapbooks
