Merry Christmas From Blackburn Fire Station Down The Years

A selection of photos showing christmas from different periods

These are a collection of photos showing the children’s parties that happened each year at the old Byrom Street fire station but unfortunately don’t in the new station. Just another of the grand old traditions that have been left behind . It was usual in my day to hire an entertainer one that you can see in the photos sweets and food and of course the awaited visit by Santa , who appeared in grand style depending on his age , again when I started he was a bit older and usually appeared from the stone steps but sometimes heĀ  was projected onto the flat roof by turntable ladder or A.L.P, and at other times he appeared from the chimney in front of the pole drop. To my enjoyment I went from bringing my kids to see Santa to handing out the presents myself only took me 25 years.
