The Passing Of Ex Deputy Chief Of Blackburn
From: ArticlesToday was the funeral of an ex Deputy Cheif Fire Officer of Blackburn Fire Brigade and Retired Chief Fire Officer of the Isle Of Man, although a sad event the funeral itself was a celebration of his life narrated by family members who described his life in fine detail with his grandchildren getting involved in reading poems. The music was delivered by the Houghton Weavers who gave us some of the old Lancashire songs that Mr Hinnigan liked, my favourite was the one about the bus to Blackpool which I was assured was one he used to sing around the station. The fire service was represented by white watch from Blackburn who gave a fine account of themselves standing to attention as the casket was taken from the car and into the crematorium. There was standing room only at the rear of the room with the ex chief Peter Holland and the current Chief Chris Kenny also representing Lancashire Fire Service. The room was full of retired firemen from Blackburn as well as friends and family. The group then went on to the Dunkenhalgh Hotel, Clayton le moors to continue the memories

My family have only discovered this page and it’s so lovely to see all the nice comments about my Dad. I’m glad that Anne enjoyed the funeral, we wanted people to celebrate all the great things about him. We also wanted to say a big thank you to all the people from the fire service past and present who came…. we weren’t really in the mood for socialising at the time, but it was lovely to see so many people and it was greatly appreciated.
We still miss him.
Your right mate I remember that, nice fella.
Did you get any stamps that was his normal gift to other recruits I think He gave some to Gary Hargreaves for getting the silver axe
Good effort, He was guest of honour on mine too.
I remember he was the guest on our passing out parade Richard
Iworked with him in 1973/74 and visited him in IoM when he’s been promoted to CFO. Lovely guy
They did give him a good send off. The Houghton Weavers were in the chapel singing John type/familly songs. I’ve not been to a service like it, it was truly a celebration of his life. Lovely send off.
I hope you gave him a good send off JR. He was my first CFO and a good man.
