Good picture Bob, I seem to remember our watch putting NHG 14X on the run on its first night then turning out with it 5 minutes later on its first shout. The morning after, as it was Lancashire’s newest machine, it was taken off the run again on the Chief’s orders to appear in an episode of “Juliet Bravo”, the Rossendale based police series!
Im pretty certain one of the Bedfords was kept as a reserve engine during the Leyland era.
By the way great site you’ve set up here, keep up the good work, my late dad was a fireman at Darwen station but did his training and had friends at Blackburn.
He would have loved to see this site.
Thanks David for your comments, you are right usually as new models were introduced the current models were ether transferred to retained stations or made reserve pumps.
