Testing Davey Escape

Inspector Jones testing the Davey Escape from the Stable Hey Loft which later became the Stations Canteen of the old Byrom St Fire Station. It went from feeding horses to feeding Firefighters, not a big change there.

When I started in the early 1960s we used to carry out a drill with the Davey Escape device from the third floor of the Drill Tower using the 50ft Wheeled Escape as the anchor point.

Going back to the picture I wonder what would happen if it failed, Health & Safety none existent back then.
