Fire Checked Quick Action By Mill Brigade
From: ArticlesQuick action by the works brigade at Albion Mill, Blackburn owned by Messrs. G. Whiteley and Co. spinners and manufacturers checked a fire in the cotton mixing room this afternoon.
Workers found that raw cotton in a large storage bin was smouldering and the mill hoses and extinguishers were immediately put into operation under the discretion of the captain of the works fire brigade Mr A. Denmark.
The town brigade arrived with two engines within a few minutes and the outbreak was under control. Large quantities of cotton had to be moved before the danger of a further outbreak was averted.
OUT OF ACTION
This prompt action stopped the fire from developing and spreading to the adjoining card and blowing rooms.
The cotton mixing machinery was put out of action but the mill has a sufficient reserve stock of mixed cotton to prevent the effect of the fire being felt in the spinning and manufacturing departments.
While the firemen were busy the mill continued to run
