From: ArticlesPicture One,

The local Mayor Alderman J Beardsworth opened a flood relief fund to help relieve hardship.
Picture Two.
Shows the extent of the flooding at the Brownhill Arms Whalley New Rd and Brownhill Rd. for many years this was a notorious area for flooding right up to the 1960s, until a new relief sewer was built from Brownhill to Bastwell I recall going on training exercise to the new project and was impressed by its size it was a 12ft diameter pipe which terminated in a massive collection chamber all which was tunnelled underground.
Picture Three,
Shows Motorists splashing through the flooded road at Smithies Bridge near Chatburn. Which shows just how wide spread the flooding was. A wide spread cleaning up operation was starting throughout East Lancashire.
Picture Four,
Shows how all the residents of Lower Darwen had pulled together to form Brush and Mop Brigades to begin the clean up, also pictured is eight year old Jimmy Waring of Herbert St Blackburn floating his boat. If your out there Jimmy get in touch about your memories through the comments page at the bottom.
Picture Five,
Shows the extent of the flooding and damage to Mrs Grace Heaton left Mrs Susannah Thompson of 21 Harrison St Blackburn. And the flooding outside Accrington Rd School.
It is incredible that Harrison St borders the Fire Station Yard just shows how great the extent of the flooding was that day.
