Two women suffer ‘serious’ injuries in Darwen Street, Blackburn town centre horror crash

Emergency services were called to the scene 9.05pm.
Two women with ‘serious traumatic injuries’ were cut from the vehicle and taken to Royal Preston Hospital.
The incident involved a Suzuki car and the road was closed by police.

Mr Hussain said the stock was destroyed when the car smashed through the shop front window.
He said: “The health food stock and clothing were all ruined by the broken glass.
“However it can call be repaired and replaced, all that matters is the people in the car.
“I just hope the people who were involved make a speedy recovery.”

“As they came round the bend the car was coming at a normal speed.
“Then it suddenly sped up, veered off the road, hit the island in front of the shop and flipped over.
“ It looks like something happened to the driver that made her speed up, the whole thing was awful.”

The vehicle smashed into Iceberg Supplements in Darwen Street.
Ice Hussain, director of Iceberg Supplements saw the accident on the shop’s CCTV system.
He said: “I was away at a meeting in Bradford when it happened.
“My phone went ballistic because the CCTV footage was sent directly to it when the shop alarm went off.

A spokesman for North West Ambulance said the 55-year-old woman had sustained leg injuries.
She said: “We attended to two patients, a 20-year-old female and a woman in her mid-50s with leg injuries.
“Both women were quite badly injured and were taken to hospital.”

IT Technician Homzah Adam from Nybble It Solutions is looking at the bigger picture.
“The shop front has been damaged, but we are just glad that no one has lost their life.
“We have had safety inspectors in and they have assessed all four floors and declared it safe so we are able to work in the offices upstairs.”

“The staff from Iceberg supplements came down as well and were really shaken up.

Our reporter Laura O’Neill has just spoken about some neighbouring businesses.
The vehicle smashed into Iceberg supplements, adjoining store Nybble It Solutions was also damaged.
IT Technician Homzah Adam said: “We were not in the building at the time but as soon as it happened we were inundated with calls.
“We came down straight away because we thought the emergency services might need access to the building.

Both casualties were released from the vehicle by firefighters using stabilisation equipment, Webber cutting tools, two long boards and lighting equipment.
“Crews then assisted in making the scene safe.”

One woman wrote on Facebook that a car nearly ran into her ‘husband’s car then smashed into a shop.
He had ‘just picked the boys up from Youth Zone and he had to swerve into Edmondsons as the car started coming towards him then smashed into a shop and went upside down’

Police are appealing for people to come forward with information…
Sgt Marc Glass from the Road Policing Unit said added: “I am asking anyone who witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken with police to come forward. You can call us on 101 quoting log reference 1406 of March 13th.”

Sgt Marc Glass from the Road Policing Unit said: “Two women from Blackburn have been seriously injured and my thoughts are with them at this difficult time. They, along with their families, are being supported by specially trained officers.”
