BLACKBURN AFS 2ND WW Fred Cumpstey 9th jun 2022

here is a great photo sent to us by FM Fred Cumpsteys’ son, in his words

I have attached a photograph of the Blackburn Auxiliary Firemen taken during the Second World War. My Dad, Fred Cumpstey is second from the left on the back row. My Dad had served as a Gunner in the Royal Artillery pre War, but because of an injury sustained whilst serving on active service, as a Regular Soldier was deemed unfit for Wartime Service. I have no idea of the date or location but am guessing between 1940 and 1945 – I was born in 1947. I had an Uncle, Albert Carter who who was a full time Firefighter for many years serving in the 1940s/1950s and maybe in the 30s. Uncle Albert was based at Blackburn and lived in one of the fire houses on Sumner Street.
