ETC 4 is the engine that my Dad drove at Stretford during the war. Unfortunately he is not driving when this photo was taken.
This appliance was allocated to Stretford & Urmston Fire Brigade upon requirement of the 1939 Fire Service Act to provide a fire brigade. Five appliances were ordered for the new brigade in total and recieved subsequent registrations and the brigade was housed in a purpose built fire station on Park Road in Stretford. The S&UFB fire station was knocked down some years ago and a new building erected on the same site. This station is now in Greater Manchester on Park Road by the Kellogg’s factory.
