After a great deal of organising on behalf of Blue Watch, Charlene and other parties the day has arrived. A great day despite the weather after some of the hottest it tried to spoil with predicted downpours but fortunately there were a lot more nicer periods . the public were entertained by several displays provided by the firefighters , damsels rescued from smoke filled towers, pretend horses rescued , breaking into doors half way up buildings, stretcher rescues from the top of the tower, cars cut apart to rescue were just some of the shows as well as many stalls inside and out. The old pump escape fire engine came to visit with Jim volunteering to bring it from its new home Leyland motor museum , and very appreciated it was too with many people enjoying climbing aboard and having their photos taken . Just in front of the escape we were positioned having been given 2 tables we filled them with old fire gear, old breathing apparatus sets old style brass branches(nozzles) and old helmets with everyone being invited to try some kit on for photos or just listen to descriptions of what the old gear was and how different it is today, during all this there was a photo presentation by projector onto a screen to show examples of what has gone on over the centuries. There was a very nice cake and drink stall with Sam , debbie, allison and others keeping everyone from getting thirsty or hungry, a fire service benevolent fund stall , a Climbers against Cancer stall selling different items of clothing as well as raffle staqlls ,bat the rat and horse racing games for the kids entertainment, and upstairs face painting and arts and crafts with the winner being displayed here. After talking to many happy people leaving the station it seems the verdict was the day went very successfully.
