Fireman John Wrightson
From: ArticlesThis great picture was sent to us by Mrs Rawdin, who says
” I wonder if you are interested in this photo of my granddad who was a fireman Blackburn between 1875 and 1885 as far as I know he lived in one of the firemans houses , as my father was born there in 1883. There were 7 sons (2 died ) my father being next to the eldest, I don’t know how many were born in the same house. His name was John Wrightson and his wife was Harriet and the dog was trained to stamp out fires and to pull a trolley with a child sitting in it . I was born in Blackburn in 1932. If you don’t want it will you please return it , I thought you might like to see the uniform of the time , I’ve had it a long while as I’m in my 70’s so it’s a bit faded
I remain yours sincerely Mrs E. Rawden ”
I think we all owe the lady a big thank you for sending this in
