  • Great photo.
Between summer 1987 and late 1988 I worked for Hitchen Bros builders from Oswaldtwistle.
I have fond memories of the work we carried out at Blackburn fire station to replace the concrete cobbled surface of the yard for concrete. Ripping up the old surface with jack hammers and a JCB driven by Paul Walsh and filling a fair number of skips, and then preparing the dug ground ready for concreting in 12’x20′ bays. I was only 18 and worked with another guy called Paul Morley. We spent many weeks on site and I remember being invited a few times to have toast and tea at about 10am. Also watching the guys when practicing with the ladders up the tower and also being allowed to go up inside the tower and look out. Really enjoyed talking to the guys on station and hearing stories from the incidents they had attended.
The Hitchen Bros guys I remember George Hitchen, Peter Hitchen, David Hitchen, Paul Morley, Fran Derosa, Paul Walsh, Mick Procter,
