Lancashire treadmill challenge 2020
From: Articles
On Monday 21 December firefighters from across Lancashire will be taking part in a 24 hour challenge to raise money for The Fire Fighters Charity.
The firefighters will be running for a period of 24 hours in teams of four at various stations across the county. The run will start from midday on 21 December until midday on 22 December.
Firefighter Fairclough said: “donations to charities have really suffered this year so it’s great to take part in this challenge to help out The Fire Fighters Charity when they do so much for us. It will be a long 24 hours and a lot of miles to cover but we’re hoping this group effort will raise a lot of money for the charity.”
The run will take place on treadmills within LFRS gyms and staff will undertake cleaning and social distance measures between runners.

Story
Four firefighters from Leyland Fire Station are taking in the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service 24 hour treadmill challenge.
On Monday 21 December, starting at noon, the four of us will be competing against another seven teams in a challenge to see which team can run the furthest. The winners will receive a blaze bear teddy bear!
We will be running on a treadmill outside the engine house doors and adhering to COVID secure practices.
We are doing this to raise money for the Fire Fighters Charity who provide help and support for injured firefighters and their immediate support.

Blackburn’s firefighters clock-up almost 1,000 miles during 24 hour treadmill run

Firefighters from across Lancashire have taken part in a gruelling 24 hour treadmill run, to raise money for the Fire Fighters Charity.
Seven stations were involved in the challenge, including teams from Blackburn, Rawtenstall, Lancaster, Ormskirk, St Annes, and two teams from Leyland, and between them they narrowly missed out on hitting 1,000 miles, clocking up 978 miles in 24 hours.
The team at Blackburn ran more than 120 miles, with the team from Rawtenstall smashing more than 150 miles.
Station Manager Matt Armstrong who organised the event, said: “Our firefighters wanted to go the extra mile this month and help raise money for The Fire Fighters Charity which has suffered financially this year due to the Covid pandemic.
“We have a number of fit and competitive staff and we thought of combining these two attributes to see if we could raise money for the charity.
“It has been an outstanding effort by all the teams that have taken part and there will be some very sore muscles over the next few days.
“The seven teams have so far raised more than £3,500.”
The challenge began on Monday lunchtime and ended at noon on Tuesday and was live-streamed on the fire service YouTube channel.
A spokesperson for the fire service said: “Huge credit to all who took part in this 24 hour treadmill challenge.
“A huge undertaking and just 22 miles short of 1,000 run by all.
“Fundraising total currently stands at £3,804 so thank you to everyone who dug deep both on the treadmill and into their pockets.
“Proud Lancashire.”

Thank you LFRS for all of the posts from around Lancashire.
It’s been the best advent calendar ever. Every day a new station.
The fireworks idea was brilliant.
